Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of Sunday’s match against Arsenal during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.
Postecoglou will get his first taste of a North London derby at the Emirates with both sides having enjoyed an impressive start to their respective Premier League campaigns, both unbeaten with thirteen points to their name.
Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the clash against Mikel Arteta’s side.
Can Ange Postecoglou lead Spurs to victory at Arsenal?
Tottenham were dealt an injury blow earlier this week after it was confirmed that Ivan Perisic had sustained a complex ACL injury to his right knee in training which requires surgery.
Last time out, Postecoglou’s side looked set to fall to a shock defeat at home to Sheffield United until some late heroics led by Richarlison saw Tottenham score twice deep into stoppage time to secure a 2-1 victory.
The Australian now faces a dilemma of whether to recall Richarlison to his starting eleven, or keep club captain Heung-min Son as his central striker.
Postecoglou told the press (Charlie Eccleshare) that Perisic would obviously be out for a long time, while Rodrigo Bentancur, Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso were also absent. It was originally thought that the latter may have a chance of returning for the Arsenal clash.
He said (Football London): “Everyone from last week is in a good space. In terms of longer ones, two or three weeks away. Bryan Gil, Lo Celso, Bentancur, hopefully over the next few weeks they will slowly get involved in training.”
Team news – Perisic out long-term but Postecoglou says he's confident he'll be back as strong as before.
Gil, Lo Celso and Bentancur still out for a little while. It had been thought that Lo Celso could be in contention for Sunday.
