Alan Shearer has backed Manchester City to win the title while Gary Lineker believes that Arsenal will be crowned Premier League champions, although the latter admitted that he is pleased to see Tottenham up there competing.
Much to many people’s surprise, the Tottenham train continues to roll on, with the Spurs players seemingly growing in confidence with each outing.
The last two wins over Fulham and Crystal Palace, in particular, had an air of inevitability about them, with the Lilywhites being able to cope quite comfortably with the pressure of being at the top of the Premier League table.
Ange Postecolgou insisted after his side’s win over Selhurst Park last Friday that the most pleasing thing for him is the performances that his side are delivering rather than the fact that they are at the summit of the table (Football.London).
The Australian insisted that none of the Tottenham players are getting carried away, with the squad being focused on improving different aspects of their game.
Can Spurs actually challenge for the PL title?
Shearer and Lineker have said that they have seen nothing so far this season that makes them change their minds on their title predictions, however, the latter did admit that Spurs were in the race.
The Newcastle legend said on The Rest Is Football Podcast: “I’m not changing my mind. I said City.”
Lineker then responded: “I went with Arsenal, of course “Mainly because you two said City and we couldn’t all say City!
“But they are there, right alongside them and it’s great we have Tottenham in the title race – certainly a race for a top-four position and doing way better than they anticipated.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Despite the performances that Tottenham are delivering, it is clear that the vast majority of Spurs fans are not getting carried away and do not really expect a tilt this season.
Most supporters seem to be of the opinion that a top-four finish would be an excellent result for Ange in his first season in charge.
