Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed a £500,000 transfer fee with Wigan Athletic for central midfielder Jensen Weir, according to the Daily Mail.

Wigan entered administration earlier this month with the cash going to help the club to pay the wages of staff.

Weir, 18, is the son of former Everton defender David, with the former Scottish international on the coaching staff of the Seagulls (Scottish Sun).

Spurs were also reportedly interested in signing the youngster, however, it appears the Seagulls are set to finalise the deal after agreeing on a fee.

The North Londoners are also said to be keen on Weir’s teammate Alfie Devine, with the 15-year-old said to be on the verge of joining the Champions League finalists (Liverpool Echo).

It is always a shame to miss out on young talent like Weir, however, you cannot argue with his decision given the fact his father is head of development at the Seagulls. It will be interesting to see if we can get the deal for Devine over the line.
