Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on the promising youngster Jensen Weir who is set to leave Wigan Athletic in favour of joining Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to Sky Sports, the 18-year-old is expected to make the move to the south coast in a deal which is believed to be worth in the region of £600,000.

Weir is likely to join Brighton’s U23 squad as he continues his development into professional football.

His father, former Everton defender David Weir is Brighton’s pathway development manager who holds the responsibility for monitoring the progress and overseeing the development of the club’s players who are out on loan (Brighton official).

With Wigan Athletic going into administration, the Championship side have been forced to look to offload their key assets as they look to remain afloat during this testing time for the club (The Times).

Spurs Web Opinion

Although I cannot comment too much on Weir as a player, it does not seem Spurs ever really stood a chance given his father is working at Brighton currently. It is a shame for Wigan that they are in this predicament but it will be interesting to keep an eye out for Weir’s name in the next few years.
