Rodrigo Bentancur is back, and sooner than expected. Now, his physiotherapist, Daniel Fernández, has explained how the recovery was able to be completed so quickly and smoothly.
The Uruguay international has been out of action for more than eight months, but finally made a triumphant return last Friday with a cameo appearance in the win over Crystal Palace.
It was a satisfying moment for the Spurs fans as much as it was for Rodrigo Bentancur, with the travelling fans delighted to see one of last season’s standout performers back on the pitch.
Bentancur had scored six goals in the first 26 games of the 2022/23 campaign before he was forced off in the 4-1 defeat against Leicester City in February (Transfermarkt).
That was the last time we saw the midfielder, as it emerged he had ruptured his ACL and would miss the rest of the season and beyond.
In the meantime, Ange Postecoglou has found a dream pairing with Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr in the middle of the park, but the Australian will be glad to have the quality of Bentancur back so soon.
How Bentancur returned to fitness so fast
The man himself has recently spoken on that recovery recently, and admitted he was eager to get back to playing football as soon as possible (Sport890). And, his personal physio has now shed some light on that injury period.
Fernández told Sport890 (via D Sports): “The return was very calm. Rodrigo has a very important spirit, the professionalism and calmness he has led to him being in good shape and returning.
“We did a very important job so that he is confident and so that the injured leg does not have any difficulties. The volume of work he did to give stability to the leg is very important.”
Discussing Bentancur’s chances of featuring for Uruguay in the upcoming international double-header, Fernández added: “Uruguay’s technical staff is constantly in contact with Rodrigo and Tottenham. They have all their data. He is fit to play, but the coaching staff will evaluate whether he can.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s really impressive that Bentancur has managed to get to action about a month ahead of schedule, but it’s so important that he doesn’t rush this and risk the injury resurfacing.
I wouldn’t think being involved with Uruguay would be a good idea, but I’m sure Lolo will be desperate to play for his country again.
