James Maddison has showered praise on Yves Bissouma, admitting that the midfielder has surprised him in training so far.

Maddison is getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of his new teammates, with the squad now in their third leg of the Asia-Pacific tour.

The 25-year-old impressed in his debut against West Ham United last week, and there seemed to be the makings of a very good partnership between him and Bissouma, who delivered an accomplished display as a number six.

The former Leicester City man has now stated that he has been surprised by how much of a leader the Mali international is in the Tottenham dressing room.

Multiple reports over the last couple of weeks have indicated that Bissouma has quickly won over Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff (Football.London).

Maddison is enjoying playing with Bissouma at Spurs

He appears to have made an excellent first impression on Maddison as well, with the 25-year-old remarking that he is keen to link up with the former Brighton man during the upcoming campaign.

The attacking midfielder told Football.London: “Bissouma’s a very very good player. I played against him when he was at Brighton and he probably didn’t play as much as he’d like to have done last season. But there’s a top player in there.

“He’s surprised me a little bit. He’s a leader, he talks. For someone who’s only been at the club for a year and didn’t maybe have the best first season as he would have hoped.

“He’s very demanding and very vocal, and there’s a brilliant player in there, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that partnership can go.”

From the training videos shared by the club so far this summer, Bissouma certainly seems extremely upbeat and motivated. I have no doubt that both he and Richarlison will prove their worth under Postecoglou, following a disappointing first season at the club.
