According to Peter Crouch, Yves Bissouma has improved so much this season for Tottenham Hotspur that he looks like he would be worth £100m.
Tottenham snapped up Yves Bissouma from Brighton last summer in a deal worth a reported £25m (ESPN). That price tag is now looking like an absolute bargain, as the Mali international continues to impress under Ange Postecoglou.
It was a difficult first season for Bissouma last year, to say the least. The classy midfielder seemingly struggled to adapt to the system and style of play of former manager Antonio Conte, while injury issues also hampered his progress at his new club.
Now, with the whole squad appearing to be revitalised since the arrival of Postecoglou, Bissouma is shining in the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has been pulling the strings for Spurs so far this season, and has earned plaudits from pundits across the game.
Crouch claims Bissouma has quadrupled his value
This impressive start to the new campaign has prompted Peter Crouch to tell TNT Sports (26/08/23) that Bissouma is now worth four times as much as the fee Spurs paid for him.
Commenting on Bissouama’s involvement in Tottenham’s first goal against Bournemouth, Crouch said: “It was a beautiful move. For me, Bissouma makes this. Me and Joe [Cole], we talked about how he won’t get the assists, he won’t get the goals. He doesn’t get the points in the dream team.
“But that little touch makes the whole thing and opens the whole game up. A beautiful ball by Sarr and Maddison spots the run fantastically well.”
On the player’s massive improvement of late, Crouch added: “Bissouma looks like a £100 million signing. From last year, it just shows a new manager coming in gives a player a new lease of life.
“I couldn’t understand last year Spurs were crying out for a player like Bissouma. I was thinking why is he not playing? The manager wasn’t trusting him and now a bit of trust from the manager and we’re seeing the benefits of that already.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Yves Bissouma has been a revelation this season, and is finally looking like the player we thought we had signed last summer, and then some.
If he continues on this trajectory, Bissouma will likely be considered among the best midfielders in the league, and when you look at the fees some teams have paid for similar players this summer, the £25m we paid looks to be an incredible piece of business.
