New Tottenham signing Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring for Uruguay on Tuesday with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box.
Bentancur sealed his move to Spurs on transfer deadline day along with his Juventus teammate Dejan Kulusesvski.
The central midfielder has been a mainstay in Juve’s midfield for the majority of his four and a half years in Turin, playing a particularly crucial role in the Old Lady’s Scudetto triumphs in the 2018/19 and 2019/20 campaigns.
The 25-year-old had fallen out of favour under Massimiliano Allegri this season and Spurs agreed on an initial fee of £15m plus £5m in performance-related bonuses for his transfer (Juve’s official website)
On completing the move to North London, the midfielder sent a message to Spurs fans expressing his delight at the transfer and stated that he is ‘ready to give everything’ for the club (Spurs TV).
Bentancur started for Uruguay in their World Cup qualifier against Venezuela at Estadio Centenario on Tuesday and the Tottenham man opened the scoring for his country with less than a minute gone on the clock.
His perfectly struck volley from the edge of the box sent La Celeste on their way to a dominant 4-1 win.

Bentancur is not particularly known for his goalscoring prowess but that strike not only showed the brilliant technique he possesses but also an ability to perfectly time his forward forays. Hopefully, we will see a few similar goals from the Uruguayan in a Spurs shirt over the next few years.
