In an interview with the club’s official website, Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has revealed how disappointed he is that his midfield partner Rodrigo Bentancur is out injured for the rest of the season.
Bentancur arrived at Tottenham just over a year ago, at the end of the January transfer window, and has firmly established himself as one of the most talented and most important players in Antonio Conte’s squad.
The Uruguayan midfielder has formed a brilliant partnership with Denmark international Hojbjerg over the last 12 months, and the pair appear to have helped one another improve in the middle of the park as a result.
This season, both players have not only put in impressive displays but have also found themselves among the goals more than usual, too.
Hojbjerg has contributed five goals and five assists across all competitions this term (Transfermarkt), while Bentancur has registered six goals and two assists (Transfermarkt).
Bentancur hobbled off injured in the 4-1 defeat to Leicester City and Tottenham have confirmed the 25-year-old will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured ACL.
Hojbjerg has discussed the fact his midfield partner will be unavailable for the foreseeable future, and highlighted his disappointment.
He said: “It does hurt. You have a feeling he makes you better playing alongside him and that is a mutual feeling. We have to manage it; we have to overcome this. I told him personally how great I think he is.
“But this is a time to come back stronger and grow, which life gives you sometimes. It is not easy, there will be difficult moments, but he is a strong and smart person who will find his way.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The partnership between Bentancur and Hojbjerg has been fantastic to watch, especially this season, and it’s such a shame that will be broken up now. I really fear how we will cope without Bentancur as he was the kind of player that really made us tick.
