Tottenham Hotspur have revealed that Son Heung-min and Rodrigo Bentancur have both been nominated for the Premier League’s Castrol Game Changer Award for 2022-23.
The award is given to the player with the best game-changing performance of the season, with Son being shortlisted for his display in the 6-2 win over Leicester City in September while Bentancur makes the cut for his performance in the 4-3 win over Leeds United in November.
Son was left on the bench by Antonio Conte for the clash against the Foxes after a sluggish start to the season and the South Korean was introduced as a substitute with the game finely poised at 3-2.
The 30-year-old then went on to score a brilliant 13-minute hat-trick, which included two outstanding curled efforts into the top corner with either foot.
Bentancur ran the show in the middle of the park in Tottenham’s win over Leeds just before the mid-season break for the World Cup.
The Uruguayan also made the difference in the final third for the Lilywhites, scoring two late goals to help the home side turn around a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 win.
The winner is set to be announced on Sunday 4 June at 11 am (BST).
Spurs Web Opinion
I cannot think of any other player who had the impact that Son did in the clash against Leicester in such a short time on the pitch.
However, as with most awards, I would not be surprised if it went to a player from the Championship winning side.
