Rodrigo Bentancur has been discussing his recovery from injury, and suggested he could be fit again in two to three months.
The Uruguayan was having an incredible season for Tottenham until injury forced him off the field in the 4-1 defeat against Leicester City in February. Bentancur had scored six goals and registered two assists until that point (Transfermarkt).
The 25-year-old was sorely missed by Spurs, who ended the season in eighth place in the Premier League and crashed out of every cup competition.
Bentancur underwent surgery to fix his ruptured ACL soon after the incident and was expected to be out until November (The Athletic).
However, the player himself posted an Instagram story (via Football.London) at the end of May where he was seen running on the Hotspur Way pitch.
Bentancur training hard to be back on the pitch soon
It seems recovery is going well for Bentancur, and now he has told Telemundo (via ESPN) how hard he is working to get back to full fitness.
He said: “The injury was at a time when I was very well, but the truth is that I do not change what happened for anything.
“I was missing a lot at the family level and everything that I am experiencing with my daughter and my girlfriend in these four months is priceless. That is also why my recovery time has passed so quickly and I am doing so well.
“It’s a long injury, one of the most difficult in football, but the truth is that I’m having such a good time with my family… I train the same every day, I do double shifts two or three times a week.
“I brought the club’s physiotherapist to Uruguay; we continue working and my knee is doing very well. I didn’t set a lap time, but I hope in two or three months to be at least gaining a few minutes again.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I cannot wait to see Rodrigo Bentancur, and it sounds like we could be getting him back on the pitch sooner than expected. I just hope he hasn’t lost any of his sharpness and talent through the injury, as he was on fire before that incident.
