Heung-Min Son has been named ‘International Player of the Year’ by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)
The club website says Sonny’s award was announced at the AFC’s annual ceremony in Bangkok on Wednesday afternoon. It adds that it is the second time he’s been named AFC’s International Player of the Year after taking the honour in back in 2015.
Sonny’s award has added to a very decent 2017 for the Korean. He scored 21 goals in all competitions last season as we finished second in the Premier League and of course struck his first Spurs hat-trick against Millwall on our way to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
The article adds that Sonny was also a history maker as for the first time ever three of players reached 20-plus goals in all competitions – Harry Kane (35), Dele All (22) and Sonny.
The article added that he also became the first Asian to win the Premier League’s Player of the Month in September, 2016 and followed it up with his second award in April, 2017.
He’s been breaking records this season too when his winner against Crystal Palace took him to 20 Premier League goals – making him the highest-scoring South Korean in Premier League history, overtaking Korea and United legend Ji-Sung Park.
If a certain beer did Years they’d be the best year in the world….
