Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas has denied reports that Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing a deal with Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven.
It was reported by The Daily Mirror (17:55, 04/07) on Monday that Van de Ven had agreed to join the Lilywhites, who were looking to complete the ‘final details’ to seal a £30m transfer.
This was also backed up by The Athletic on Tuesday, with the publication suggesting that the Wolfsburg star is edging closer to a switch to Tottenham, who are growing increasingly confident of winning the race for the 22-year-old.
Nothing agreed between Spurs and Wolfsburg
However, Thomas has now refuted these claims, stating on the Last Word On Spurs that Tottenham are not close to any agreement with Wolfsburg on a transfer fee for Van de Ven.
The journalist added that the North London club have not even reached an agreement with the player on personal terms until now.
Thomas claimed that Tottenham are yet to make a final decision on the left-sided centre-back role and are continuing to look at all options.
Spurs Web Opinion
Based on the various reports over the past 48 hours, it appears as if Tottenham have laid all the groundwork for the Ven de Ven deal and are ready to meet Wolfsburg’s valuation if necessary.
It appears as if Spurs are waiting to see if there is any progress on a deal for Edmond Tapsoba before deciding whether to push ahead with the Dutchman’s signing.
