Alasdair Gold has revealed on Football.London that Tottenham Hotspur believe Edmond Tapsoba is a more ‘readymade’ option for the left centre-back role than Micky van de Ven.

It has been widely reported over the last week that Van de Ven and Tapsoba are Tottenham’s two top targets for the left centre-back role, with Fabrizio Romano stating on AMP a couple of days ago that the Lilywhites are expected to sign just one of the two.

Gold has now now indicated that Spurs have held discussions with both the Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg stars, and are now set to decide who to pursue.

Spurs see Tapsoba as the more ready-made option

He explains that Van de Ven is keen on the switch to Tottenham and his pace and his versatility (he can also operate as a left-back) makes him an attractive option for Ange Postecoglou’s men.

The journalist further adds that the Netherlands international is only expected to cost around £30m.

Gold asserts that Tapsoba is viewed by those at Spurs as someone who is more ‘readymade’ and can slot straight into Postecoglou’s backline, thanks to his ability on the ball, strength and acceleration.

However, he explains that the Burkina Faso international is expected to be more expensive than the Dutchman, with his value thought to be close to £50m.

Spurs Web Opinion

Much like we saw with Tottenham’s goalkeeper pursuit, where the club decided to turn their attention to Vicario rather than waiting for Brentford to relax their stance on Raya, I suspect we will see the Lilywhites press ahead with a move for Van de Ven unless there is some breakthrough in the Tapsoba talks over the next two days.
