Fabrizio Romano has said that as things stand, Tottenham’s plan is to sign just one of Edmond Tapsoba and Micky Van de Ven.
It has been widely reported over the last week that Spurs are now focused on signing a left-sided centre-back.
Romano himself took to social media on June 28 to state that the North Londoners had opened talks over a deal for Van de Ven, who was considered a less expensive option than Tapsoba.
This claim was also backed up by Ben Jacobs, who said during his appearance on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel last Thursday that Spurs are more likely to move for the Dutchman since they face a lot of competition for the Bayer Leverkusen star.
Alasdair Gold suggested on his YouTube channel last Friday that Tottenham could even pursue both players if they can get enough centre-backs out of the door.
Spurs plan on signing Tapsoba or Van de Ven
However, Romano has now told AMP that the Lilywhites plan on signing just one of Tapsoba or Van de Ven for the left centre-back role.
The journalist confirmed that as things stand, Tottenham are continuing to work on both deals but their idea is to sign either the 22-year-old or the 24-year-old.
I clearly said “with the idea to sign just one, as things stand” 😄

Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect that Tottenham’s plan is to sign either Leverkusen or the Wolfsburg star and then snap up Clement Lenglet permanently and use the Frenchman as cover for the left-sided centre-back role.
As things stand, it appears like Van de Ven would be the easier one to get but it seems like Tapsoba is Tottenham’s top preference.
Should the negotiations for the Burkina Faso international drag on, I believe Tottenham would quickly strike a deal for the 22-year-old.
