Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their pursuit of Micky van de Ven by submitting a verbal offer for the Wolfsburg defender, but Fabrizio Romano says it is not a done deal at this stage.

After a poor showing in the 2022/23 campaign, which saw Tottenham concede 63 goals in the Premier League, it should come as no surprise that new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has told the club’s board to sign him a centre-back this summer (90 Min).

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo is one of the names to have been linked with a move to North London (Sky Sports).

Meanwhile, Alasdair Gold told Football.London that Bayer Leverkusen centre-half Edmond Tapsoba was Tottenham’s top target during the current transfer window.

However, the latest noise surrounding Spurs’ hunt for a new centre-back appears to suggest Micky van de Ven could be the one to make the switch this summer, with the Dutch defender reportedly having met Postecoglou already (De Telegraaf).

Now, the latest from Fabrizio Romano reveals that Spurs have taken the next step and have actually sent an offer to Wolfsburg for Micky van de Ven.

The transfer expert tweeted: “Understand Tottenham have submitted verbal opening proposal for Micky van de Ven.

“Negotiations ongoing now with Wolfsburg — not done deal yet. No issues on personal terms, parties are close on contract details — up to Spurs and Wolfsburg.”

It sounds like we are making really good progress on this one, and while it’s unclear whether Wolfsburg will accept the initial offer, the player clearly wants the move.

Once we agree on a fee with the German side, it won’t take long for this deal to be completed.
