Micky van de Ven will not be making his debut for the Netherlands in their European Championship qualifier against Greece this evening as it has now been reported by ESPN that he will not be part of the matchday squad for the clash.
When Van de Ven arrived at Spurs this summer on the back of his breakthrough season at Wolfsburg, many Tottenham fans would have seen the 22-year-old as one for the future rather than as a finished product, given his lack of experience at the highest level.
However, the centre-back has hardly put a foot wrong since arriving in N17, having showcased maturity beyond his years.

Van de Ven gets a rest despite Netherlands call-up
He has seamlessly adapted to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League and to the demands of Ange Postecoglou’s system, and was rewarded with his first call-up to the Orange.
ESPN.nl have now explained that while Ronald Koeman called up 25 players to the squad, only 23 can be listed on the form for match selections.
The Netherlands boss has reportedly left out the Tottenham man and Chelsea’s Ian Matsen from the list, which means that neither can be named in the matchday squad against Greece this evening.

While Van de Ven would be disappointed at this announcement, just training with superstars like Virgil Van Dijk and Frenkie de Jong would be a great experience for the younger.
I have no doubt that the 22-year-old would have forced himself into Koeman’s starting eleven by the time Euro 2024 comes around.
