Tottenham Hotspur captain, Heung-min Son, has praised his teammate Micky van de Ven for his performance in the North London derby this weekend.
Micky van de Ven was the player chosen by Tottenham this summer to try and solve the defensive problems that were so costly for the Lilywhites last season.
The 22-year-old got off to something of a shaky start in the opening game against Brentford, but has since found his feet and formed a solid partnership with Cristian Romero in the heart of defence.
Ange Postecoglou has started the pair in every league game so far this season and that doesn’t appear to be likely to change any time soon.
The young Dutchman got his first taste of a North London derby on Sunday afternoon, and put in yet another fantastic performance to keep the Arsenal front line at bay.
Sonny is happy with Micky van de Ven
In a post-match interview with Viaplay Sport Netherlands, Heung-min Son discussed van de Ven’s performances and revealed something they have in common.
He said: “Micky was fantastic today. I’m very, very much enjoying watching him play. Obviously, I have to be nice because this is Dutch TV, but honestly, Micky played fantastic today, and all season.
“We understand each other because he can also speak German. So we sometimes speak German together.
“I love him, as a player and a person, but he is still young so he will improve and go to the next step. But he has huge potential. I am pleased to be working with him. And playing alongside him is a joy.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It hasn’t taken Micky van de Ven very long at all to settle into this Spurs squad and adapt to the English game. He has all the attributes to succeed at this level and he is only going to get better. That partnership with Romero looks to be just what we needed at the back, too.
