Micky van de Ven has named James Maddison as the best player he has ever played with, admitting that he was left amazed by the attacking midfielder when he arrived at the club in the summer.

Maddison had already shown at Leicester City that he is up there with the best creative players in the Premier League but the 26-year-old has seemingly taken his game up another notch since his switch to Spurs.

The England international has made Ange Postecoglou’s men tick going forward, not only proving a threat in the final third but also dropping deep to help the team progress the ball up the pitch.

Last Sunday, Maddison showed that he enjoys the pressure of the big occasions as he was one of the best players on the pitch in his first North London Derby, setting up both of Son Heung-min’s goals.

Micky Van de Ven pays big compliment to Maddison

Van de Ven has revealed that he has been blown away by the midfielder since arriving at the club.

When asked on Tottenham’s official channel who is the best player he has played with, the centre-back responded: “For me, Madders. When I came here, he is just quality. He is pure class when you see him play.”

Van de Ven gave the same answer in his interview on the Premier League’s official channel.

When asked who has impressed him the most at Tottenham, the 22-ear-old said: “Maddison. He’s got so much quality. You see it on the pitch.

“To be honest, [I was impressed] with every player. When I came here, the level was so high from every player. You are like ‘Wow’. The Premier League is the top of the top.”

While I knew Maddison was a good technician, I have to admit that I did not know how good a player he really was until he joined the club in the summer.

He has excellent feet, which makes him quite press-resistant even though he is not blessed with pace or athleticism. He also has supreme confidence in his own ability and is not afraid to take games by the scruff of the neck.
