Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a fantastic campaign this season, finishing with a top-four spot and a chance to lift the Champions League trophy for the very first time.
It, therefore, seems like the perfect moment for Levy to invest big in the transfer window, so I thought I would pick my dream starting XI for the 2019/20 season.
I have attempted to stay realistic, as I believe you should only ever add a maximum of three first-team players in a transfer window, while Tottenham will also likely have a large but limited budget.
GK – Lloris – If you’d have asked me a few months ago, I would have given Gazzaniga the nod, but Lloris has stood up in recent big games and earned another chance. His last-minute penalty saved against Arsenal likely secured Spurs a top-four spot, while he kept the club in the tie against Ajax.
RB – Wan-Bissaka – Hands down one of my top transfer targets this summer. Spurs need a new right back, and Wan-Bissaka is the best young up-and-comer around. Hopefully, Spurs can pick him up for £40m.
CB – Alderweireld – I am hoping that a CL final and a new stadium will be enough for Toby to at least see out his contract.
CB – Vertonghen – Underrated next to Alderweireld, but Vertonghen is one of the world’s best left-sided centre backs for me.
LB – Rose – Has looked like the Rose of old towards the end of this season and I see no reason to replace him. Although, if Spurs can grab Sessegnon for £25m as a future investment, then I would.
CM – Winks – One of the best young talents in the Spurs squad and I really believe he can flourish into a fantastic player for club and country.
CM – Ndombele – My dream signing. If Tottenham could scoop him for £80m, I would be incredibly happy. Has everything Tottenham need, drive, power, pace, and can help ease the burden on an ageing Moussa Sissoko.
RM – Maddison – While I would play him more as a tucked in right-mid, similar to where Eriksen sometimes plays, Maddison would be another top priority for me. He has had an incredible first season for Leicester, and Tottenham should attempt to pick him up for £60m.
CAM – Alli – Despite having a poor season, I think a full campaign as a centre-forward/attacking mid will get him back up and running.
LM – Son – One of Spurs’ best players and will always make my starting XI.
CF – Kane – No explanation needed.
So, there we have it, I estimated £180m spent on three key players, and while this is a lot of money for Tottenham, I think it could really give them a title-winning team. I would also look to sell the likes of Aurier, Dier, Wanyama, Janssen, Nkoudou, Onomah and more to finance some new squad players.
