With Christian Eriksen revealing that he wants a new challenge at a bigger club (Ekstra Bladet), and Real Madrid reportedly interested in the Great Dane (Mirror), we take a look at three big names who could replace him.
Giovani Lo Celso – likeliness 8/10
By far the most likely replacement for Christian Eriksen at Tottenham, if the media is to be believed. Spurs apparently lodged an opening bid of £53m for Lo Celso a week ago, far below his £88m release clause (BBC). Gianlucadimarzio have since reported that Tottenham increased their bid to £62m four days ago, but still no joy. However, the Real Betis midfielder is said to be keen on joining Spurs (Sky Sports), so it could only be a matter of time. He registered 16 goals and six assists in 45 games last season.
James Maddison – likeliness 6/10
James Maddison would apparently cost someone £60m this summer (Mirror), but once you take into account his seven goals and seven assists in a Leicester side on his debut Prem season, that seems like a good price. Maddison also created more chances than any other player in the entire league last season with 100. Spurs have been linked to the English playmaker in recent weeks, so a deal could be on the cards, but the only issue is that Man United and Man City are also said to be keen.
Donny Van de Beek – likeliness 4/10
The least likely of the three, but Spurs were linked with the Ajax midfield man earlier in the season (Metro). Van de Beek scored against Spurs in the Champions League, and looked extremely impressive on the ball across the two legs. He is said to be worth around £45m (Metro), a bargain for his 15 goals and 11 assists for Ajax this season.
