Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has been increasingly linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.
The Dane has 18 months to run on his existing deal in North London and there have been no signs of an agreement to extend his contract further.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, but according to reports in the Spanish press, Madrid have cooled their interest in the playmaker and instead wish to prioritise Eden Hazard’s signature in the summer (Sun).
While it has been reported that Leicester City’s James Maddison has been identified by Spurs as a potential Eriksen replacement (Express), Spurs fans will be hoping the club can somehow convince the former Ajax man to extend his contract before the summer.
However, according to former Premier League midfielder Andy Townsend, Eriksen has already made up his mind about leaving Tottenham for pastures new.
“I think the player has already decided he’s going to go. I think he’s going to go,” Townsend told The Debate on Sky Sports.
“Once a player gets to this point, I don’t think you’re playing contract poker with the club. I think you’ve already made your decision of what you’re doing. I think Eriksen has enjoyed his time with Spurs and yes there is a new dawn around the corner with the new stadium etc.
“But you’re always going to get one or two that are going to come out of there. I think he’ll be the first one to go.”
