Ahead of the game against Luton Town this weekend, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has commented on the way the club is looking after key player James Maddison.
Since the departure of Harry Kane this summer, Tottenham needed a new star to step up and fill the void left behind. The signing of James Maddison provided an instant solution to that problem.
Maddison has delivered all the creativity Spurs have been lacking and then some. Not only that, but the England international has also become the club’s vice-captain and has shown incredible leadership qualities on the field.
The 26-year-old has been integral to the early success of Ange Postecoglou‘s reign, and has formed an electric partnership with Spurs skipper Heung-min Son so far.
The only downside is, the Lilywhites are now fairly dependent on Maddison. And, with the playmaker taking a couple of knocks in recent weeks, it’s safe to say fans are worried about his fitness.
James Maddison is fully fit, says Postecoglou
We needn’t worry, however, if Postecoglou is to be believed. Speaking to the press (via Football.London) in advance of the weekend’s fixtures, the Australian has put to bed any doubts over Maddison’s condition.
When asked if Maddison is being wrapped in cotton wool to keep him fit, Postecoglou replied in his typical lighthearted manner: “No cotton wool here, just barbed wire mate. Maddison is fine, he’s trained in every session this week.”
A report from The Athletic earlier this week suggested both Maddison and Son would be available for selection this weekend and Postecoglou’s update appears to corroborate that.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s great news that Maddison appears to be in good condition ahead of the Luton game. One thing we don’t need right now is more injury issues, and especially not to a player as important as Maddison.
