Tottenham Hotspur have now officially confirmed the permanent departure of Davinson Sanchez, who joins Turkish side Galatasaray this summer.
Although Spurs can no longer sign players this year, the Turkish transfer window remains open, meaning Davinson Sanchez’s sale still had time to go through.
Tottenham fetch a fee for late Davinson Sanchez deal
Fabrizio Romano reported this week that Spurs will receive between £8.55m and £12.8m for the centre-back, with add-ons included in that price.
Sanchez first signed for Tottenham back in 2017 for a then-club-record £42m (Guardian), but he never quite lived up to that price tag in North London despite some initially encouraging seasons under Mauricio Pochettino.
He leaves N17 after having made 207 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring five goals in that time (TransferMarkt), although his final kick for the club was a penalty miss in a Carabao Cup shoot-out against Fulham.
Ange Postecoglou now has Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ashley Phillips, Ben Davies, Eric Dier, and academy youngsters to choose from in his central defender ranks.
Spurs Web Opinion:
It never quite worked for Sanchez at Tottenham but you cannot fault his efforts in a Lilywhite shirt. No matter the criticism, he always tried to bounce back and give his all. Sometimes, it just isn’t meant to be. All the best, Davinson.
