Robbie Savage has named James Maddison as one of the best players of the Premier League season so far, hailing the midfielder’s impact at Tottenham Hotspur.
Many Spurs fans were delighted that the club were more-or-less unopposed in their pursuit of Maddison this summer, with the North London club managing to get the player for £40m following Leicester City’s relegation from the top flight.
The 26-year-old’s impact has been instant in N17, having not just become the main creative fulcrum of the side but also one of the leaders of the changing room.
From his body language and the respect he commands from his teammates, one would have thought that the England international had already been at Tottenham for many years.
Is Maddison the best player in the PL at the moment?
Maddison has considerably out-performed other midfielders like Kai Havertz and Mason Mount, who were sold for much bigger fees during the summer transfer window, and Savage has no doubt that the Tottenham man is the best signing of the window.
The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder told PlanetSportBet (as relayed by TEAMtalk): “You have to look at the way Spurs have started the season, top of the Premier League, and I think the signing of James Maddison was fantastic.
“He’s got five assists in the Premier League and two goals; the way he plays, the way the team are playing, the way Big Ange has implemented his style on Spurs, but Maddison is instrumental into the way they play. what a signing he’s been; value for money, he’s been the best signing of the summer.”
Savage also named Maddison alongside Ollie Watkins and Dominik Szoboszlai as his top three players of the season so far.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that several clubs across the Premier League would be ruing the fact that they did not vie for Maddison’s signature in the summer. The 26-year-old would cost more than £100m if he was on the market right now.
