Jermaine Jenas continues to heap praise on James Maddison, and claims the midfielder has ‘transformed’ Tottenham Hotspur since joining the club in the summer.
Having been signed as a means to filling the creative void at Tottenham, James Maddison has done exactly that, and then some.
Spurs are absolutely flying under new manager Ange Postecoglou and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table. Maddison has been a key factor in that success.
The 26-year-old has five assists already this season (Transfermarkt) and has forged a fantastic partnership with Spurs skipper, Heung-min Son.
Many have claimed Maddison has been something of a replacement for Harry Kane at Spurs, not necessarily in terms of goals, but in terms of becoming a talismanic player for the Lilywhites.
Maddison has changed Tottenham Hotspur
The comparison has also been made between Maddison and his Arsenal counterpart, Martin Odegaard, with Jermaine Jenas and Darren Bent gambling on who will end the season with more goal contributions (talkSPORT).
Bent recently doubled down on his claim that Odegaard is the better player (talkSPORT). Now, Jenas has done the same with Maddison.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Jenas said: “I was having this discussion recently with an Arsenal fan around Odegaard and James Maddison. The guy said ‘you would always take Odegaard over Maddison’ and I’m like – ‘why?’ I’m not that convinced by it.
“Odegaard is a special talent, so is James Maddison. It’s more to do with how he [Maddison] has transformed a team on his own. That’s the biggest fear for Spurs, Maddison’s fitness and maintaining that all year, because you take him out of that team, it looks totally different.
“He is a top-class talent who is on the verge of becoming a world-class talent as soon as he gets onto that stage.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The idea of James Maddison getting injured is scary. He has quickly become one of, if not the most important player at the club, and we don’t really have another player like him. At this moment in time, he is better than Odegaard.
