Sky Italia have reported that Salernitana have given Tottenham a 48-hour deadline to make a decision about Pape Matar Sarr and whether a deal can be done in January (10/01/23 as relayed by AreaNapoli and SportWitness).
However, the report also adds that the chances of Sarr leaving Spurs now seem ‘remote’ after the youngster has appeared in three matches in the past month. The Senegal international was one of Tottenham’s most impressive players in the 1-0 FA Cup win over Portsmouth this week.
This comes after La Citta di Salerno reported that Salernitana are concerned Conte could block a loan transfer for Sarr in January due to his increased influence on the squad.
CalcioMercato revealed last week that the Serie A club had made contact with Tottenham about a potential deal for the 20-year-old, with sporting director Morgan De Sancti confirming said interest by admitting Sarr is the kind of midfielder the club are looking for (Fabrizio Romano).
Spurs Web Opinion:
I don’t see Tottenham loaning Sarr out now, because I also don’t see another holding midfielder coming in. If Spurs get one or two injuries, suddenly Sarr becomes a regular on the bench and a good rotation option, so Conte will want to keep him.
