Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signing Pape Matar Sarr has been compared to Roberto Carlos due to his free-kick ability.
The Metz youngster earned the nickname ‘Carlos’ with reference to the infamous Brazilian’s prowess and technique with a dead ball at his feet.
The nickname was awarded during the 2019 U17 World Cup when Sarr scored a beautiful free-kick for Senegal against the United States of America.
The 18-year-old joined Spurs from Metz this summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £14.6m, but the midfielder has returned to the French club on loan for the upcoming season (Sky Sports).
Sarr signed a six-year deal with Tottenham Sky Sports claim the Lilywhites beat five other clubs to his signature.
However, not only has the teenager been compared to Brazilian legend Carlos, but he has also drawn comparisons to midfielder Miralem Pjanic by Metz director Oliver Perrin.
Perrin told Senego: “I immediately knew that Sarr was going to be a top player, with a very high level when it comes to reading and analysing the game. He is like Miralem Pjanic.”

Sarr is clearly a big talent and every big club has the ability to snatch up the top European starlets early in their career, so it’s a good sign that Paratici is doing that already.
Hopefully, one more year back at Metz will ensure he is ready to start showing his talents in the Premier League next season.
