Spanish outlet Todofichajes have claimed that Atletico Madrid are now ‘very close’ to striking a deal with Tottenham for the transfer of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Earlier this week, we relayed a report from the print edition of AS (12/08/23 via Sport Witness), which claimed that Hojbjerg’s proposed move to Atletico is being delayed by the Spanish side’s inability to offload their unwanted players.
The report asserted that the Colchoneros would first need to sell at least two of their players before making a move for the Spurs star in order to ensure their compliance with the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Deal close to completion for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
However, Todofichajes have now asserted that the deal to bring Hojbjerg to Atletico is now moving ‘closer to completion’.
The report states that the 28-year-old is Diego Simeone’s top choice to bolster the midfield department, with the Argentine said to see the former Saints man as ‘the necessary piece to fill in the puzzle’.
The publication adds that Atletico have now made an offer of €25m (£21.3m) for Hojbjerg, with the deal now said to be ‘very close to being resolved’.
It is alleged that the only difference between the two parties at the moment are on some minor details, including the percentage of any future sale of the midfielder that Spurs would be entitled to.
Spurs Web Opinion
There are a couple of reasons I am quite sceptical of this report. Firstly, it has been widely reported over the last few days that the negotiations between the two parties over Hojbjerg have not progressed.
Secondly, I would be quite surprised if Spurs consider anything less than £30m for the midfielder, given that he has been a regular starter for the club since arriving from Southampton three years ago.
