Marca have claimed that Atletico Madrid have decided not to pursue a permanent deal for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and will instead look to sign the Tottenham man on loan.
The report states that Atletico had to sell two of their players before making a move for Hojbjerg but the club have now changed their plans.
Joao Felix is now the only player the La Liga side will allegedly look to sell unless they receive an offer they cannot refuse for one of their other stars.
That means that the Spanish side do not have the funds to pay the €30m-€40m (£25.6m-£34.2m) that Tottenham are demanding for Hojbjerg.
Atletico want to sign Hojbjerg on loan from Spurs
Instead, it is explained that Atletico are now exploring temporary deals for the Tottenham man and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti, potentially with an option to buy.
The publication adds that the La Liga side are ‘clinging’ to the fact that they have a good relationship with Spurs after successfully negotiating deals for Kieran Trippier, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon over recent years.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not see Tottenham considering loaning Hojbjerg out, given that the midfielder only has two years left on his deal.
If he does not sign a deal (which he seemingly does not want to), the club would be keen to cash in on him before the transfer window closes.
However, I do not think that Postecoglou would mind having the Dane around as a squad player, particularly with Bentancur sidelined for the moment.
