Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has said that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s proposed move to Atletico Madrid could depend on whether the Spanish club are successful in offloading some of their players to Saudi Arabia.
It was reported earlier in the summer that Tottenham expect Hojbjerg to seal a move to Atletico and that the North London club had thus identified replacements for the Dane (Daily Mail).
However, the situation appears to have changed since then, with Marca reporting last week that the La Liga club might not be able to afford a permanent deal for the Spurs man.
It was explained that Atletico were looking unlikely to offload any other first-team player apart form Joao Felix and thus might not be able to raise the €30m-€40m (£25.6m-£34.2m) that Tottenham are demanding for Hojbjerg.
Atletico move for Hojbjerg is not yet dead
Gold has now asserted that Hojbjerg’s proposed transfer to Atletico might not be dead in the water just yet.
The journalist reveals that several of the Rojiblancos stars have been linked with moves to Saudi Pro League sides over recent days, and should some of those deals materialise, it might open the door for them to snap up the 28-year-old Spurs midfielder.
Spurs Web Opinion
Even though Pape Sarr impressed against Man Utd and we still have Rodrigo Bentancur to come back, Postecoglou would likely want one central midfielder to come through the door if Hojbjerg leaves.
So, unless Tottenham have already lined up a replacement, the North London club might be hesitant to accept a late approach for Atletico for the Dane.
