Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Atletico Madrid continue to lead the race for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s signature ahead of the January transfer window.
Over the last couple of weeks, we have relayed multiple reports from Italy which have talked up the chances of Juventus making a move for Hojbjerg in January (CalcioMercato).
Juve are not the only club eyeing the Tottenham man, with some outlets suggesting over the last few days that his representatives have spoken to several interested clubs (Corriere Dello Sport via Sport Witness).
Atletico leading the race for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
If Mundo Deportivo’s latest update is to be believed, Atletico continue to be at the front of the queue for Hojbjerg’s signature.
It is explained that Diego Simeone was keen to sign a midfield pivot in the summer and identified the 28-year-old as the top target, with the La Liga side holding conversations ‘throughout the summer’ and ending up ‘frustrated’ at their failure to get the deal over the line.
The report states that Atletico have remained attentive to the situation of Hojbjerg, who was ‘very upset’ that his agent failed to finalise a summer transfer, which is why he subsequently changed his representation.
The publication adds that the Colchoneros value the former Southampton man for his experience and physicality while Spurs are expected to demand €40m (£34.6m) for his services in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
With Hojbjerg having a little over 18 months left on his contract, Tottenham would probably be happy to get £25m-£30m for him in the January window. The North London club would be hoping that a bidding war ensues between the likes of Juve and Atletico for the midfielder.
