Don Hutchinson believes that Kieran Trippier is currently the best right-back in the world.
Trippier spent four seasons at Spurs after joining the club from Burnley in the summer of 2015 and he developed into a top right-back during his time at the club, even winning a place in the England team.
However, he had a significant drop-off in his final season at Spurs, with his defensive mistakes costing Mauricio Pochettino’s men on several occasions.
Trippier eventually joined Atletico Madrid for just £20m (BBC) where he improved his defensive game under the tutelage of Diego Simeone, playing a valued part in the club’s title win in 2020-21.
Did Tottenham sell Kieran Trippier far too early?
The former Tottenham man has been one of the standout right-backs in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United in January of last year.
Hutchinson named the Magpies star in his Team of the Season so far, remarking that he is the best in the world in his position. He told ESPN FC: “Best right-back in world football, Trippier.”
The pundit also named three Spurs players in the eleven – James Maddison, Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven.

There is no doubt that Tripper has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years and with hindsight, we can say that Pochettino made a mistake in sanctioning the England international’s departure back in 2019.
