Gabby Agbonlahor is confident that Tottenham Hotspur will be battling it out for a top-four finish this season after they emerged with a draw from the Emirates.
Even though Spurs had made an excellent start to the season and had delivered some eye-catching performances in the first five matches, some were suggesting that it was too early to talk about them as potential top-four contenders, given their relatively easy start (talkSPORT).
Tottenham certainly showed on Sunday at the Emirates, in what was billed as their first big test of the season, that they are a much-improved side under Ange Posteocoglou and will continue playing their way irrespective of the standard of their opposition.
Will Tottenham make the Premier League top four?
On the back of the Lilywhites’ hard-fought 2-2 draw, it feels like some pundits are now coming around to the idea that Spurs are not to be taken lightly this season.
While Agbonlahor does not think Tottenham can challenge Manchester City, Arsenal or Liverpool, he expects them to have a big say in the race for Champions League qualification.
He told talkSPORT: “I think at the moment you would say that [Liverpool are the closest to challenging Man City] but you’ll change your mind after every two games.
“It could be in two games’ time, Liverpool might have dropped points, Arsenal have got six out of six and you’ll be like ‘Arsenal are the next challengers’.
“But overall, I do think it’ll be Liverpool and Arsenal and then I think Spurs will be fighting for the top four. But I just think Man City are a level ahead.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The big worry for us is if one of Romero, Van de Ven, Maddison or Bissouma gets injured as we simply do not have replacements who are anywhere near the same standard.
If our key players stay fit until January and we make a couple of additions in the window, there is no reason why we cannot finish in the top four.
