Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Louis Saha has said he would not be surprised to see the club win the Premier League title this season, but admits it will likely be either Manchester City or Liverpool who come out on top.

Tottenham have got off to a magnificent start to the new campaign under Ange Postecoglou. The Lilywhites, along with Arsenal, are still unbeaten after seven games, with five wins and two draws putting them second in the table.

Postecoglou’s exciting brand of football has fans feeling hopeful once more. And, it is getting the best out of the players, too.

Heung-min Son is firing on all cylinders and relishing the added responsibility of being the captain. James Maddison is proving to be a perfect acquisition in midfield, while Yves Bissouma is back at the top of his game, too.

It is still early in the season, but Spurs are now being mentioned in the same breath as Manchester City as potential winners of the Premier League this year.

Spurs have to believe they can win the title

For Louis Saha, Tottenham lifting the trophy is a distinct possibility, but he thinks it will take a lot to stop City or Liverpool.

He told BetFred: “I’ve said before, you’ve seen teams win the title when they’ve not been expected to. Leicester City are the best example of this. I’m not necessarily saying that if Tottenham won the title it would be a surprise because any team of their quality could win it.

“The Premier League is the most difficult league in the world, so regardless of whether you’re on a ten-game unbeaten run or not, all it takes is one key player to be out of form or be injured for the season to destabilise them.

“I hope that doesn’t happen for Tottenham because I’ve been so impressed with the intensity they play with and I’ve been very impressed by the performances of James Maddison.

“They have the right formula at this moment in time and there’s a belief that they can win the Premier League this campaign, however the season is a marathon and you need to have the consistency, the stamina and the arrogance to know that you can beat any team that gets in your way.

“Arsenal were brilliant last season but at the end of the day, there’s a different component that you need to hold out in the title race and at the moment, Manchester City and Liverpool have that in their DNA and will be the two main contenders to win the Premier League title this season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While we have started the season in brilliant shape, we still have 31 games to play and many months of football to get through. Injuries could really harm us, but if we can get to January in a strong position, we have a good shout of being there or thereabouts.
