Sport have now claimed that while Xavi Hernandez wants to bring Giovani Lo Celso to Barcelona in January, the transfer might not prove straightforward for the La Liga giants.
Earlier this week, we relayed an update from Fichajes which claimed that Barca are keen to bolster their midfield in January and had identified Lo Celso as a target.
The outlet added that with Spurs open to offloading the Argentine, the Catalan club are ready to offer €15m (£13m) for his services.
Lo Celso transfer is complicated for Barcelona
Sport have now claimed that Lo Celso is the player that Xavi ‘likes the most’ and that the Barca boss has tried to sign him on several occasions in the past.
The report states that the Tottenham man ‘perfectly fulfils the versatile profile’ that the 43-year-old is looking for and he is thus an option who is ‘gaining strength’ among the Barca hierarchy.
However, it is explained that the La Liga giants’ acquisition of Joao Felix ‘reduces the possibility’ of them swooping for Lo Celso in January.
The publication adds that Barca’s economic situation and their issues in meeting FFP requirements further ‘complicate’ the operation.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do expect Tottenham to look to offload Lo Celso in January but I doubt Spurs would consider any loan deal that does not come with an obligation to buy.
The 27-year-old looks likely to retain to Spain and for the moment, it seems like he could be the subject of a battle between Betis and Barca.
