MilanWeb have named Tottenham Hotspur as one of the leading contenders in the race for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.
Gimenez had a prolific 2022-23 campaign, with his goals being a key reason behind Feyenoord’s historic Eredivisie triumph.
The 22-year-old has started the new campaign from where he left off, having found the back of the net nine times in seven league games so far.
Last week, 90 min reported that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea had all travelled to the Netherlands to watch the Mexican in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by his performances.
Spurs expected to be Milan’s main rivals
While reporting on Milan’s pursuit of Gimenez, MilanWeb have now suggested that the Serie A club should ‘watch out’ for the competition from the Premier League, ‘specifically’ Tottenham.
The report claims that the Lilywhites expressed an interest in the Feyenoord star during the summer transfer window and have continued to keep a close eye on him.
The outlet states that the Dutch club are hoping for a bidding war for Gimenez’s services and it is asserted that while Spurs’ finances give them an edge over Milan, the centre-forward is not the North London club’s number one target.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not expect Tottenham to prioritise signing a centre-forward in the January window. Postecoglou seems content with Richarlison and Son as his options, with Johnson also being capable of playing as a false nine if necessary.
I expect Spurs to sign a centre-back and a central midfielder during the next transfer window and to reassess the striker situation next summer.
