Eredivisie legends Roy Makaay and John van Loen have spoken in glowing terms of Santiago Gimenez’s goalscoring instincts, amidst reports linking the Feyenoord striker with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
If there were any doubts over Gimenez potentially being a one-season wonder, he has certainly dispelled those completely with the way he has started the season.
The 22-year-old has found the back of the net nine times in seven league games so far this season and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Last week, 90min reported that scouts from Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea had all travelled to the Netherlands to watch the Mexican in action this season, adding that they had been impressed by his performances.
It has subsequently emerged that Gimenez is also on the radar of AC Milan (MilanWeb) and that Real Madrid are also ready to enter the race for the centre-forward’s signature in January (Fichajes).
Santiago Gimenez is highly-rated in the Eredivisie
Makaay is far from surprised by the interest that the striker is generating, with the former Feyenoord man telling Algemeen Dagblad: “Gimenez is greedier (than other strikers). I think he will be the top scorer in the Netherlands.”
John van Loen said: “(Gimenez is the best in the league) because he is very goal-oriented and improves every day.
“Everything he touches seems to go towards the goal. He is so driven and is increasingly participating (in the build-up). Every coach wants a striker like that.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Gimenez’s numbers in the Eredivisie are extremely impressive, we have seen time and again over recent years that the attackers who make the move from the Netherlands to England struggle to replicate the same sort of success in the Premier League.
Having said that, the Feyenoord striker is blessed with a natural goalscorer’s instinct and that will serve him well no matter which division he plays in.
