Agent, Morris Pagniello, who is a consultant for Santiago Gimenez, has admitted that Tottenham and Real Madrid are now the two front-runners for the Mexican’s signature ahead of January.
Giminez has been one of the hottest strikers in Europe at the start of this season, having scored 15 goals in 13 matches so far this season, and the centre-forward is thought to be of interest to several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham (90 min).
Earlier this week, TV Play (via Sport Witness) suggested that the 22-year-old is likely to be England-bound in January, with the Feyenoord man alleged to have received ‘great interest’ from Tottenham.
The publication added that Ange Postecoglou’s side are following Gimenez with ‘great attention’ and are ‘willing to accommodate’ him in their squad, with Feyenoord thought to value the striker at €45m-€50m (£39.2m-£43.5m).
Tottenham are leading the way for Santiago Gimenez
Pagniello, who admitted that he works as a consultant to the striker and his father (who is also his agent), has now named Spurs as one of the leading contenders for the player’s signature.
He told TuttoMercatoWeb: “We have already discussed with Atletico Madrid. After he arrived at Feyenoord, the family approached me and now there are relationships with his father, who represents Santi at the moment I am their consultant.
“We talked about it with Inter, Milan, Lazio and Napoli, but for me, he could be perfect for both Inter and Juventus. They would be the best options for him.
“I have been telling various clubs to believe in him, his value went from 10 million to 40 in just under twelve months. Now the teams closest to him are Real Madrid and Tottenham.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Pagniello’s assertion is the most concrete evidence so far that Spurs are seriously considering a January move for Gimenez. The Mexican fits the profile of signing that Tottenham tend to go for, given his age and reported price range.
