Alejo Veliz could be set to get his big break at Tottenham Hotspur soon, as Ange Postecoglou is reportedly ready to hand the young striker an opportunity in the first team.
Eyebrows were raised in the summer when Spurs, who had just lost their star striker Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, opted only to sign a relatively unknown Argentinian forward.
Alejo Veliz, just 19-years-old when he joined Spurs, only had a brief level of experience in the Argentinian leagues. So, naturally, many have wondered whether he is ready for the Premier League.
Not Ange Postecoglou, though. Veliz has been among the substitutes for Spurs in the last three matches, coming on for cameo appearances against Liverpool and Luton, albeit for roughly one minute each time (Transfermarkt).
With injuries to the likes of Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic, there’s every chance there could be more to come from Veliz in the near future.
Alejo Veliz will get his Tottenham chance
That’s the opinion of Dan Kirkpatrick at least, who had the following to say on The Tottenham Way podcast.
“Well I think it’s quite interesting and quite intriguing to have [Bryan] Gil and [Giovani] Lo Celso and to an extent [Alejo] Veliz as well potentially being involved more prominently after the international break, Kilpatrick said.
“I’m just kind of interested to see what [Ange] Postecoglou can do with them. I think at the start of the season we were talking about everyone getting a clean slate.
“We’ve seen some players already do pretty spectacular things with that slate, chiefly Bissouma, but more or less everyone who was here last season has improved. We can’t write off Lo Celso and Gil’s chances.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I really want to see more of Alejo Veliz. I think he is the kind of player who could really explode onto the scene once he gets going.
