According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs on Celtic striker Daizen Maeda ahead of the January transfer window.
Tottenham did not replace Harry Kane with an out-and-out centre-forward in the summer, instead choosing to sign the versatile Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day.
Richarlison came up with the goods yesterday as he recorded a goal and an assist off the bench to rescue a win over Sheffield United, while captain Son Heung-min netted a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Burnley when he was tasked with leading the line.
Spurs now eyeing Daizen Maeda from Celtic
TEAMtalk have now suggested that Ange Postecoglou is looking to bolster his options upfront in January and is considering the possibility of raiding his former club for Maeda.
The Japan international has quite a modest record at the Scottish club, with 32 goal contributions (19 goals and 13 assists) in 76 appearances until now.
However, the report alleges that it is the 25-year-old’s relentless engine and willingness to press, along with his versatility, that appeals to Postecoglou.
The publication asserts that Celtic would hope to get a fee of £25m or move for Maeda if Tottenham come knocking in January.
Spurs Web Opinion
Maeda certainly fits the profile of a forward that Postecoglou tends to favour but his numbers at club and international level are quite poor, and they certainly do not suggest that the forward is capable of making a step up to Premier League level.
