Former Tottenham Hotspur star Danny Rose has labelled Tanguy Ndombele a ‘special’ player, despite the Frenchman’s struggles to establish himself at the North London club.
Tanguy Ndombele signed for Tottenham in 2019 for a then club-record £55m plus £10m in add-ons (Guardian).
There were huge expectations placed on the playmaker, but Spurs fans have only seen that talent in glimpses during his time at the club.
When Antonio Conte took over at Spurs, Ndombele quickly found himself forced to the fringes of the Italian’s squad and spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan back at his former club Lyon. The Frenchman was then sent to Napoli for the 2022/23 campaign.
While over in Italy, Ndombele found himself part of a title-winning squad, but his involvement for Napoli was minimal. The 26-year-old made 40 appearances in total for the Serie A champions last term, though most of those appearances were from the bench (Transfermarkt).
The skilful midfielder is now back with Tottenham for pre-season and there are murmurs that he could find himself given a fresh start by new boss Ange Postecoglou for the season ahead.
Ndombele should be given a chance
Danny Rose and Ndombele crossed paths briefly when the latter joined the club, and now Rose has spoken about how he hopes Postecoglou gives Ndombele a chance this year.
He told talkSPORT (27/07/23 at 18:14): “I only got to have six months with Ndombele. He is so special. I hope he is given a chance. He would be like a new signing for Spurs in there.”

If by some miracle Ange Postecoglou could get the best out of Tanguy Ndombele, we could have one of the best midfielders in the league sat right under our noses.
Many managers have tried and failed to use Ndombele effectively in the past, but he could be worth one final attempt.
