Paul Brown thinks Dejan Kulusevski is now under pressure to step up and deliver consistently for Tottenham in order to keep his place in the club’s starting eleven.

After an excellent start to his Tottenham career when he arrived at the club in January of 2021, Kulusevski struggled to live up to the high standards he had set for himself last campaign.

The Swede has certainly shown signs of returning to his old self so far this season, having looked quite menacing in the final third.

The 23-year-old has covered more ground than any other player across the Premier League so far this season and he has already popped up with a couple of crucial goals, including the 100th-minute winner against Sheffield United last Saturday.

Is it now Kulusevski vs Brennan Johnson at Spurs?

However, Brown believes that unless the former Juventus man keeps delivering consistently, he could find himself warming the bench, given the forward options that Ange Postecoglou has at his disposal.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Kulusevski: “He made a real impact when he first came on loan and he probably hasn’t quite found the same sort of form.

“The system and the way that Spurs play now should suit him, really. He’s going to get space to run into and, I think if he can rediscover his form is going to be a really important player for Spurs.

“But they do have quite a lot of competition now for places, so he’s going to be under pressure to perform to get in and stay in that team.

“Whether that brings the best out of him or not, we have to wait and see. But he’s certainly got the potential to be a big player for them this season.”

I do not think Ange would consider resting Kulusevski at the moment, particularly given what the Swede is giving the side off the ball. I expect the Australian to continue using Brennan Johnson as an impact substitute for the next couple of games.
