According to a report from Correio da Manha (10/12/22 via Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are taking the necessary steps to make an offer for Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro, after being impressed by his performances in the Champions League.

Porro began his career in his native Spain before moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2019. He never made an appearance for City though, and instead was shipped out on loan to Real Valladolid immediately.

The right wing-back then joined Sporting Lisbon on loan the following season, on a two-year loan deal. He would later make that move permanent in the summer of 2022, in a deal which includes a reported 30% sell-on fee clause (Express).

The 23-year-old was a shining light in Lisbon’s Champions League campaign this year, playing a starring role as the Portuguese side narrowly missed out on qualification for the knockout stages. Porro caught the eye against Spurs, too, and has been linked with the club since (Jornal de Noticias).

Just last week, a report from A Bola claimed Spurs were stepping up their interest in the exciting talent ahead of a potential approach in January, as Antonio Conte looks to solve his right wing-back problem (90Min). This has been reinforced by the new report from Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha.

The report claims Tottenham are “preparing to formalise” an offer for Porro ahead of the impending January transfer window. It is believed that any deal “will be around” the valuation of Porro’s release clause, which is set at €45 million (£38.7m).

Apparently, the speculation is “making people talk” over in Portugal. Rightly so, as Porro would be sorely missed by Lisbon, for whom he has contributed eight assists in 18 games in all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Pedro Porro would be my number-one pick for our right wing-back area. He’s quick, strong, has a killer ball in him, and can defend really effectively, too. He seems to perfectly fit the profile of what Antonio Conte needs for his system, and we should make this move happen.
