According to a report from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have been tracking Sporting Lisbon wing-back Pedro Porro for a while, but have some doubts over whether he meets the physical profile required by Antonio Conte’s system.
The Spanish right-back began his career in his homeland before making the move to Manchester City in 2019, but things never worked out for him there. After a loan spell to Real Valladolid, he joined Sporting Lisbon on a two-year loan deal, before making that switch permanent this summer.
It’s been a great season so far for the 23-year-old, who put in some incredible displays for Sporting in the Champions League. Porro played particularly well against Tottenham Hotspur, which led to speculation linking Spurs with a move for the player (Jornal de Noticias).
It has been widely reported that Antonio Conte is keen to find a solution to his right wing-back problem (90Min) and Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha (10/12/22 via Sport Witness) believe Spurs see Porro as the one who could fix that issue.
While that report suggested Spurs are preparing an offer for the upcoming January transfer window, the latest from Football.London casts some doubts on that notion.
The report said: ‘The club have kept a close eye in recent years on Sporting right-back Pedro Porro, with the 23-year-old former Manchester City player a wide man Spurs like, and he is represented by CAA Base, a major agency with close links to Tottenham.
‘However, there remains some element of doubt as to whether physically he fits the mould required by Conte for his wing-backs’.
Spurs Web Opinion
I see no reason why Pedro Porro wouldn’t be a perfect fit for the kind of player Conte is looking for in that right-wing-back area. Going forward, Porro has incredible talent, and he appears to be a very aggressive and disciplined defender from what I’ve seen, too. I would be very happy if Spurs signed him.
