The print edition of O Jogo (12/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) has revealed that Tottenham could step up their pursuit of Sporting Libson full-back Pedro Porro as the competition for his signature is heating up.

Tottenham are expected to sign a right wing-back in January (90 min) and Porro is thought to be one of the names on the North London club’s shortlist.

Over recent weeks, multiple Portuguese publications (Jornal de Noticias and Correio da Manha via Sport Witness) have backed the Lilywhites to push ahead with a move for the 23-year-old.

O Jogo have now explained that Spurs have been gathering data on the Sporting star after scouting him earlier this season. It is asserted that Antonio Conte’s men also contacted a Manchester City employee, who knew the player prior to his move from Manchester to Lisbon.

The report adds that Porro’s effectiveness in one vs one situations and his crossing ability appeals to Tottenham, which is why he is on the club’s ‘reduced list’ of right-back targets.

It is alleged that the Premier League club’s only worry about the Spaniard has to do with his fitness as he has missed 20 matches since joining the Portuguese club in 2020.

Finally, O Jogo add that since the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona have already got in touch to know Porro’s price, Spurs could ‘accelerate the negotiation process’.

Spurs Web Opinion

I would personally prefer Porro to Dumfries, even though the latter is arguably more proven at the highest level.  While the Dutchman would be an upgrade on Emerson, I am unsure if he would offer something different to Doherty. Porro, on the other hand, is more aggressive when he picks up the ball and often looks to drive at the opposition defence.
