Pedro Porro says he is living his dream at Tottenham Hotspur, admitting that he has been ‘fighting’ all his life to work his way up to a top Premier League side.

Spurs signed Porro during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make the transfer permanent, which was activated last week, with the total deal costing the North London club £38.4m.

The Spaniard has had difficult first six months at Tottenham, having played under three different managers in the form of Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason, and will now play under his fourth in Ange Postecoglou.

Although doubts have been raised about Porro’s defending, the 23-year-old has shown glimpses of his exceptional quality going forward, having scored three times and picked up three assists in 15 Premier League appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

It was reported by Alasdair Gold on Football London a little over a week ago that Postecoglou likes Porro and could consider using him higher up the pitch.

The 23-year-old certainly appears determined to make the move work, admitting that he has always dreamed of playing on the biggest stage.

When asked about his switch from Sporting to Spurs, Porro told Spanish publication Hoy (as relayed by Sport Witness): “It was a giant step, in the end, I’ve been fighting for it all my life and it’s something very big.

“And I don’t want to wake up from this dream, it is undoubtedly one of the best leagues in the world, if not the best, and being there every day is a gift for me for all the work I have been doing since I was little in my land.”

Porro does not appear to be a natural fit for the inverted full-back role as his best qualities are the timing of his overlaps and his crossing.

However, the Spaniard is technically good enough to play as a right-back in Postecolgou’s system and I expect the Australian to give him a long rope.
