Pedro Porro has revealed that Eric Dier helped him through the difficult times he endured upon his switch to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

There was plenty of excitement about Porro’s arrival at Spurs, as the Spaniard had developed a reputation as one of the best young wing-backs in the world during his 18-month spell at Sporting Lisbon.

While the 23-year-old did show glimpses of his brilliant attacking play in his first six months at Tottenham, with three goals and three assists in 15 Premier League outings, he did struggle defensively on occasions.

Porro is now likely to be asked to operate in a different role than he is used to, with Ange Postecoglou’s sides tending to set up in a 4-3-3 with inverted full-backs, similar to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Porro has Eric Dier to thank for settling in at Spurs

The Spain international will be hoping to adapt quickly to the new system and give a much better account of himself, and he has now admitted that he is satisfied with how he has settled in off the pitch following a difficult start to this time in North London.

Porro told AS (01/07/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) about his move to Spurs: “It has been beautiful and exciting and at the same time a bit difficult for me.

“Arriving in a new country and in a different league takes time to adapt but I am quite satisfied. At the beginning, it was difficult because of the language.

“I was helped by Eric Dier, who knows Portuguese from his time at Sporting. Now it’s up to me to keep giving 100% to keep taking steps forward.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The general consensus among the Spurs fan base seems to be that Dier should be sold this summer but I believe that Postecoglou would want to keep the 29-year-old around as a squad player, partly because the Australian would value the leadership that the centre-back brings to the table.
