Ange Postecoglou has insisted that he sees no reason why Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie cannot play together as the two full-backs.

Some eyebrows were raised when Postecoglou named both Porro and Udogie in his starting eleven against Lion City Sailors today.

The players were also both given the nod against Leicester City, but Spurs fans did not get an opportunity to see how things would unfold as the clash at the Rajamangala Stadium was called off due to water logging on the pitch.

Udogie impressed in the second half of Tottenham’s friendly against West Ham United last week, with the 20-year-old adapting impressively to the inverted full-back role and even getting on the scoresheet.

Meanwhile, It was reported by Alasdair Gold on Football London last month that Postecoglou likes Porro and could consider using him higher up the pitch.

Porro and Udogie could play together at Spurs

With the Spaniard and the Italian being accustomed to playing as wing-backs at Sporting Lisbon and Udinese respectively, there might be question marks about their defensive capability, but Postecoglou has insisted that they both fit the profile of full-backs he is looking for.

When asked if Porro and Udogie can play together, Postecoglou has now said (via Football.London): “I don’t see why not.

“I wouldn’t read too much into the current line-ups I’m putting out and where people are playing but if you’re asking if they will be full-backs, I would love them to play full-back. That’s the profile we’re looking for.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think that Porro and Udogie might well finish next season as Tottenham’s first-choice full-backs but I would be surprised if Postecoglou started with the pair straight away.

I suspect the Australian will go with either a Porro-Davies combination or an Emerson-Udoige one to begin with, just to provide some defensive insurance to the side.
