James Maddison has revealed that Ange Postecoglou told the Spurs squad to be good human beings during his first days at the North London club.

It has been a dream start for Postecoglou to life in N17, having gone unbeaten in his first eight Premier League matches, winning six in the process.

While Ange will be the first one to play down the significance of Spurs topping the table in October, the Lilywhites have produced results away to Arsenal and at home to both Man United and Liverpool.

Whatever way you look at it, Tottenham have made significant progress during the early days under the Australian, especially compared to the final weeks of Antonio Conte’s time in charge.

Ange Postecoglou takes a human approach at Spurs

Maddison has now opened up on Postecoglou’s style in training, revealing that he favours intense sessions that translate to performance on the pitch.

He also explained how Postecoglou focuses on the players as human beings just as much as professional athletes.

Maddison told TalkSPORT: “He has come in and had his way of playing and his methods.

“The way he wants us to train day in, day out is infectious. There’s not a day where you can go out and be half-hearted.

“Every day and every training session is intense, it’s hard and it’s his way, but we’re reaping the rewards of that on the pitch on a Saturday.

“The gaffer is a good man, first and foremost. The first thing he said to us on one of his first days was ‘be a decent human being and we’ll get along fine’.

“That’s one of his morals and you can tell by the way he carries himself and he speaks to people that he’s a good man.

“He’s open, he’s honest and he’s straight to the point. He’s very direct and there’s no mucking about. That’s just refreshing.

“You don’t want managers who are giving mixed messages and having favourites.

“He’s a good, hard-working man, which is the foundation that he bases his teams off. It’s infectious to us players.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

As well as Postecoglou comes across to fans, it feels as though he comes across even better to the players themselves. For the first time in a long time, everyone from top to bottom is buying into this Tottenham Hotspur project.
